Active Practice

CONGRATULATIONS ON OUR ACTIVE PRACTICE STATUS!

Whittaker Lane Medical Centre has been awarded an 'Active Practice Status'. We recently won our 'ProActive Practice' award for our contribution, going above and beyond in improving the wellbeing of staff and patients through physical activity. The Practice has focused on increasing physical activity for both the staff and patients, which has positive and beneficial impacts on our health.

Research shows that regular physical activity can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke by as much as 35% and decrease the risk of early death by as much as 30%.

As part of our commitment to the Active Practice Status, both clinical and administrative staff will be taking part in the local 'Pizza Run' situated at Heaton Park on the 30th October 2022. We will be fundraising for our local mental health service 'Creative Living Centre' and you can read more about the cause and also make a donation on our 'JustGiving' page, click HERE

If you are taking part, whether running or spectating, and you see us, please cheer us on.

Are you interested in becoming more active? Whether its planting and digging in the garden or taking the stairs instead of the lift. A walk around your local area or even further afield to the countryside. A solo journey on a bike to work or a family ride to the park. An early morning swim or an evening session at the gym. Whatever you decide to do, increasing your active status is protective to your health and helps prevent ill health.

We continue to provide a monthly walk. Meet up with like minded people and walk local. For more information on on Whittaker Lane Walks, please click here for further information.

The Beacon Service provides community-based services to help get you active. The service also provides support for isolation/loneliness, mental health & wellbeing, long term health condition and many more. Please click here for further information.

As part of our Active Practice campaign we have also partnered with our local Park Run at Heaton Park! You don't have to run to get active and take part. The event is run by volunteers which means we can help you in becoming a marshall or tail walker. Ask our Practice Team for more details. You can also visit the Park Run website, click here for more information on how you get involved.
